This is a decorative replica of the Aztec Sun Stone, also known as the Calendar Stone.
The original stone is a massive basalt sculpture created around the year 1500 and is a well-known piece of Aztec art and mythology.
It depicts the Aztec understanding of the cosmos, including the five successive worlds or "suns".
The central face is widely believed to represent the sun god Tonatiuh, with a tongue shaped like a sacrificial knife, symbolizing the need for blood offerings.
The bands of symbols around the center include the signs for the 20 days of the Aztec calendar, which is why it is often called the "calendar stone".
