Laurium is a bustling but isolated town on the edge of Germanic territory controlled by the
Roman Empire in the late second century. There, daily life can be difficult, laden with simmering tension between the citizens of the empire, whose soldiers control the town, and the Germanic people who have lived in this region as long as anyone can remember. They are the descendants of proud tribes who reluctantly bent their knees to Roman conquerors, though many still plot to see these interlopers overthrown.

Yet strange creatures lurk in the forests beyond Laurium's palisade walls and stalk the forgotten tunnels beneath the town. These foul monsters are tied to sinister forces that threaten life and sanity, themselves echoes of malevolent alien gods from beyond the stars-deities older than Rome, older even than lost Atlantis, who see humanity as nothing but fodder and fuel.

These are the collected stories of an odd assortment of unlikely heroes of Laurium. Although they all come from different walks of life and backgrounds, they must set aside old enmities and bitter feuds in order to save their home from the sinister plots of devious cultists. For at the bidding of these power-hungry individuals, a greater threat arises from its slumber-a god of slaughter, sealed away long ago and nearly forgotten.
