A contemporary of singer-songwriters Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, and Rodney Crowell during the 70s. While Richard Dobson never reached the same level of notoriety as them, his songwriting was no less revered by his peers. (Dobson co-wrote "Old Friends" with Guy Clark and Susanna Clark.) Dobson relocated to Switzerland in the last 90s but still visits Texas regularly. "Gulf Coast Tales" is the result some recording sessions during some of those visits, a collection of his songs plus favorite covers.
