WW2 Type P8 navigational compass used by RAF in aircraft including Spitfire - Hurricanes & bombers including the Lancaster bomber. Comes in original purpose built wooden box & date stamp in blue ink to inside of lid Slough 1941,which would have been the RAF air base that it was located during the war & was a used mostly by Hurricane fighters at the time ( Slough RAF base was closed in 1950 ) This p8 is a grid type compass for setting & reading courses. The "AM" marking refers to Air Ministry the British government department responsible for the RAF. The compass still works & reads true north & can still be read although the fluid which has discoulred due to age & could be replaced if serviced.This is an original & interesting piece of historical WW2 vital equipment which has survived fir over 80yrs with its box that has been Sympathetically looked after.
